Live Music: Opel

  • Fort Hill Brewery 30 Fort Hill Road Easthampton, MA 01027 United States (map)

Alt-rock band Opel plays their first show live in the tasting room on Saturday, April 30 from 3-6 pm.

Opel came onto the music scene in Western Massachusetts in 2005 when bassist Bill Szafarowitz and song writer James Fiore (formerly of the band Project Fuzz) began performing together. By the time they released their first album in 2008, “Strange Encounters”, Jonas Cain (The Ghost Quartet, Andy Lightening and The Storm) had joined the band on tenor saxophone. Opel had endured a series of drummers until in the midst of recording their 2010 EP, “The Fifth Measure”, their rhythm section was completed with the addition of Mark Putnam. It was also during this time that Theresa Berard (Watcher) would make an early appearance singing on two of Opel's recordings, preceding her 2012 recruitment as the band's keyboardist and lead vocalist. Theresa brought a young up and coming guitarist, Eugene Fortier, into the fold and the ensemble was complete. Driving bass, complex percussion, dark melodic keyboards, and intense electric guitar leads define the sound that Opel claims as their own.
